1. The software and the license

Tide is licensed under the MIT License. The MIT License is permissive: you may use, copy, modify, merge, publish, and distribute the software, free of charge and for any purpose, subject to the conditions and the disclaimer in that license. To the extent anything in these terms conflicts with the MIT License as it applies to the software itself, the MIT License controls.

2. Your account with model providers

Tide is bring-your-own-key. Calls to language models are made directly to the provider you select, using your own credentials, and are governed by that provider's terms of service, acceptable-use policy, and pricing. You are solely responsible for any charges, rate limits, or obligations that arise from your use of a provider through Tide.

We are not a party to your relationship with any model provider and have no control over provider availability, pricing, behavior, or outputs.

3. Acceptable use

You agree to use Tide only for lawful purposes. Because the agent can execute shell commands and modify files on your behalf, you are responsible for the commands it runs and the repositories it operates in. You agree not to use the software:

• To violate any applicable law or the rights of any third party;
• To access, modify, or distribute data you do not have the right to access;
• To generate, store, or distribute malware or other harmful code intended for use against systems you do not own or are not authorized to test;
• In a way that breaches the terms of any model provider you connect.

4. Your content

Your code, conversations, and configuration remain yours. Tide stores them on your device and does not claim any ownership of, or license to, your content. See the Privacy Policy for how data is handled.

5. No warranty; “as is”

The software is licensed “as is,” without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. The authors or copyright holders provide no warranty that the software will be error-free, secure, or uninterrupted. This section restates the MIT License disclaimer; the full text controls.

Importantly, the agent is a tool that executes commands and edits files on your behalf. It can make mistakes. You are responsible for reviewing proposed changes before they are merged and for maintaining backups of data you cannot afford to lose.

6. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall the authors or copyright holders be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, or consequential damages — including loss of data, loss of profits, or business interruption — arising out of or in connection with the software or the use or other dealings in the software, whether or not advised of the possibility of such damage.

7. Third-party components and providers

Tide depends on open-source libraries, each under its own license, and may integrate with third-party tools and Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers you choose to connect. We are not responsible for the behavior, availability, or data practices of third-party components, providers, or MCP servers.

8. Updates

The software may be updated from time to time. You may choose whether to install an update. We are not obligated to provide any specific version, maintenance, or support.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time and will revise the “Last updated” date above. Because the software is MIT-licensed, the license terms that apply to the software itself do not change. Your continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

10. Governing language

These terms and the MIT License are provided in English. Any translation is provided for convenience only; the English version controls.
